Bellsgrove Steadings, Strontian

This beautiful old building, although already partly converted into a house, was in much need of attention to bring it into the 21st century, whilst keeping it sympathetic to its wild surroundings.

Jane drew up plans, maximising the interior space which had previously included stables and a garage space. The finished 4 bedroom house has the living area on the first floor, leading onto a balcony set over the entrance porch and an en suite bathroom.

Also upstairs is the Utility Room, Master Bedroom and En Suite, making the house ideal for a family wishing to do Bed and Breakfast.

The exterior has benefited from the removal of the harling, the extension of the roof at the gable ends and the addition of the entrance porch, which was designed not only for practical purposes, but also to “hide” an awkward layout of openings.

Thanks to ground source, underfloor heating there are no awkward or ugly radiators, so every bit of wall can be used as required – the result is a characterful old building with a young, vibrant heart.
